This past weekend was the first annual Bulkley Valley Art Studio Tour. It was held over Sat. Aug.4 & Sun.Aug.5 10am-4pm each day. It was a self-guided tour where visitors got a map of the various studios participating in the tour, and people could bike or drive around Smithers, Telkwa, and those of us in the outlying areas to check out our creative spaces and artwork. While I didn’t get as many visitors as the town-based artists (which I expected to happen), I did get a good turnout over the days, and many of the people I didn’t know. So it meant that new folks were exposed to my work, which is always what you want as an artist. I had some great conversations with some curious folks were wanted to know more about my various series, my techniques, my ideas, etc. My own kids added to the atmosphere too of course!
A few of our local artists worked hard organizing it, so many thanks to them. The photo of my daughter and I was taken by BV artist and organizer Sherry Neilson as she also tried to make it around to the different artists’ studios. Click here to see the downloadable map for the event.
What a great idea to celebrate area artists and showcase their work…you are lucky to have your own studio space! Based on the photos, would love to see more of yours….
A dream location for any artist….you folks have really done Smithers proud….there is nothing like this in any of the smaller cities or towns….except, maybe Nelson…Love your work, style and ethics…
